秋日和　Akibiyori

秋の、よく晴れて、さわやかな天気。

Akibiyori refers to the fine, gentle autumn weather.

 

 

秋声　Shyūsei

 

風雨や木の葉のそよぎなどの音に感じられる秋の気配。

Shyūsei referes to the sounds that give one a sense of the approaching Autumn: the sound of the breeze, rain and the rustle of leaves.

 

 

月の影　Tsuki no kage

 

「月の影」とは月の光のことで、「古今和歌集」に

「このまよりもりくる月の影見れば心づくしの秋は来にけり」とあります。（木々の間からもれてくる澄んだ月の光を見ると、さまざまに気をもみ、心も消えつきるほどに、もの思いをさせられる秋がもうやって来たのだなあ。）「心づくしの秋」とは、物思いの多い秋ということでしょうが、美しい銘だと思います。

 

Tsuki no kage (directly translated means ‘the moons shadow’), refers to the light rays reflected by the moon. From the ‘Kokin wakashū’ collection of waka poems:

 

Konoma yori

Morikuru tsuki no

Kage mireba

Kokoro zukushi no

Aki ha kinkeri

 

Looking at moon rays

filtering through the branches

The pensive Autumn is here

 

The part about the ‘pensive autumn’ is refers to times of reflection we go into, stimulated by a sense of the season. Reflection in the filtered moonlight, ‘tsuki no kage’, makes the scene all the more aesthetically appealing.
